The Bow Tie Story

Colophon

This first edition of The Bow Tie Story was printed by its author—and her letterpress teacher, Lisa Rappoport, who works under the imprint Littoral Press—at the San Francisco Center for the Book on March 10th, 2020. The text is set in Filosofia, a font designed by Zuzana Licko—who also designed fonts for early Macintosh computers—of Emigre Fonts. The pulp and cotton linters that went into Somerset’s 115 GSM Book Wove paper were sustainably sourced before St Cuthbert’s Mill created the paper you now hold.

The Story of the Story

This story was first published on YouTube (under the pseudonym Nunyo Bidnett) in video format as an example for the author’s students at a Digital Storytelling workshop in Nairobi, Kenya on the occasion of the First Annual International Day of Sharing Life Stories in 2008.

The author had no written record of the story, so she transcribed the audio from YouTube into ASCII text, which was eventually transformed into the polymer plates that made an impression during the letterpress printing of this single-page folded book.
