A Peachey Day for a Walk to and through the Cloisters
I’ve been cat-sitting for my sister, who lives in Manhattan, for many years. This year, I was with Doolin — the fluffy Persian cat named after the town in County Galway — for ten hot days in July. The hottest of those day I had arranged to visit Jeff Peachey.
His home studio has a wall of tools, some of which are mysterious to 21st-century folks. Last year at the Guild of Book Workers Standards Seminar I had shown Jeff one of my latest bookworks, a piece that will be in the next exhibition of the California Chapter of the Guild of Book Workers in Long Beach, CA: Hornbook for the 21st Century: a Labyrinth & a Spirangle. More on that piece in another post. Jeff showed me a handmade metal gauge that resemble a horn book.
Here are a few shots of our visit to the Cloisters. The 95º temperature was not so bad because (thanks to a brief thundershower and the breeze off of the Hudson River.
